could self-moving objects explain away ?dark matter??
march 20, 2007
special to world science
a physicist has calculated that in four special
places on earth each year, for a thousandth of a second, objects
might be able to move slightly with no push of any sort.
the proposition stems from an unusual
theory of motion that some researchers have
devised to explain movements of stars and galaxies which,
otherwise, seem to violate the laws of gravity.
for instance, stars appear to orbit the centers of
galaxies faster than they should.
the prevailing explanation for this is ?dark
matter?: the idea that unseen blobs of an
unidentified substance pervade the
universe. this would provide sources of
gravitational pull which, added to the visible
sources, account for the oddities.
some physicists consider dark matter a proven
fact. but a minority disagree, unsettled
by the fact that dark matter has never been found, even though it
would have to outweigh regular matter by fivefold.

Re: Could Self-Moving Objects Explain Away "Dark Matter?"
if any of you are having trouble understanding light eye's post, here is an
easy way to read the words: copy the text and paste it into an excel
spreadsheet. go to "edit/replace" and on the first line enter .
second line leave blank, then "replace all". do this again, but in place of
, key in ; . you will be able to read the summary. or.....just click
on the url and read it
