    Default Concluding Charles Hapgood's theory.

Charles Hapgood provided evidence that the end of the Pleistocene Epoch occurred abruptly, ending the lives of millions of animals across America and Siberia roughly 12,000 years ago.
Hapgood argued that this was due to a change in the rotation of the Earth around a new axis. Hapgood calculated that during the Pleistocene the Earth rotated around a North Pole located in Hudson Bay, Canada refer Earth's Shifting Crust.
Hapgood argued that the Earth's crust is able to be displaced from the mantle below it if enough of an imbalance occurs between the amount of ice located in the North and South pole. Hapgood theorised that the imbalance from the centrifugal forces placed upon the earth would be enough to dislodge the entire crust causing it to move suddenly. This theory did not gain support in the scientific community and Hapgood's ideas have been mostly forgotten.

However, I believe Hapgood made one fatal error. He failed to recognise the significance of his discovery that the Earth once rotated around a North Pole located in Hudson Bay.

If you are interested - hold up a globe. Place Hudson Bay at the North Pole. Place your index finger at the bottom of the globe - where is it?
Then ask - what can be guaranteed to be at this point if this was the South Pole? Answer - an ice cap.

Now estimate how large the ice cap would be. Imagine the colour. White? Certainly.

    Now what do you have?

I argue you now have a continuous continent encompassing Antarctica, the ice cap and including Australia (Tasmania with its glaciers) and New Zealand (which has fiords and glaciers at the south-western tip).

What would you call this continent?
It has already been named and mapped countless times. Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Ferdinand Magellan and the Vikings amongst others had access to the maps these mapmakers made and we all know they made miraculous discoveries.

So if you believe the following to be true, that Columbus sailed the ocean blue with maps in hand drawn long before and he found fame I'm told - then help me get the message across to prove true the maps of old!!!!

If you believe that the European explorers used ancient maps to discover America then you may have to believe Hapgood's claim that the maps date to the Pleistocene Epoch, placing an advanced civilisation on the Earth 12,000 years ago. A civilisation that was wiped out by the melting of the ice cap situated between Antarctica and Australia. In fact, the human race must have been close to total extinction and I don't believe we give enough credit to the people who stayed alive during this time.

To answer the question stated above: the continent was named Terra Australis Incognito and I challenge you to do your own research and find ancient maps of Terra Australis Incognito and see if my theory proves true. Just note, that I've always found it odd that Australia was never mapped as a separate continent until recently - this was because it was a part of Terra Australis Incognito.

So the next question is why have I placed this thread in a December 2012 discussion?
Because I think that 12,000 years ago, something happened to the Earth to make it alter it's rotation - and that thing may happen again in December 2012 and I want people to be aware of the possibility it may happen again.
I have my own thoughts on the cause - does anyone have a thought of their own?

    Nice, Mr. Harrow!

The famous Piri Re'is map of the early 1500's which was possibly sourced from maps stemming from the great Alexandrian library of antiquity and beyond shows Antarctica as it is, were it free from the ice cap under which it labours.

Santillana and Deschend wrote and published 'Hamlet's Mill' in 1969 - this seminal work serves today as an excellent introduction into the still 'fringe' concepts of crustal shifting about the planetary core, whereby the outer shell of the Earth may periodically move by a factor of up to 20 degrees per shift, possibly every 13,000 years give or take, relative to the position of the static dynamo which is the core of the planet. Mark,

Thank you for your post - I was unaware that there was any scientific research supporting Hapgood's theory of crustal displacement, which is quite exciting.
Did Santillana and Deschend give a cause for crustal shift?

If there was an ice cap between Antartica & Australia/New Zealand - would that explain why the ocean during the Pleistocene Epoch was a lot lower than it is now?

The continent of Terra Australis Cognito (if I may) would be white, thereby reflecting a good amount o the sun's rays back into space - could this explain why the Pleistocene was colder then the Holocene?

Fiords. How did the fiords of south-western New Zealand form? An entire continent of ice a kilometer (or more) thick moving northward - floating on top of the sea. Imagine the forces?

If there was an ice cap between Antarctica & Australia/Aotearoa - and it melted when the Earth moved - would this account for the Great Flood that appears in so many ancient cultures?

The Younger Dryas. Scientists are at a loss to explain the cause of the Younger Dryas. If the South Pole ice cap were to melt when it moved north into a temperate ocean - then could this be the cause of the Younger Dryas?
    From Wikipedia:
The Younger Dryas stadial, also referred to as the Big Freeze,[1] was a geologically brief (1,300 ± 70 years) period of cold climatic conditions and drought which occurred between approximately 12,800 and 11,500 years BP (before present).[2] The Younger Dryas stadial is thought to have been caused by the collapse of the North American ice sheets, although rival theories have been proposed.

Is this a map of an actual landmass that existed 12,000 years ago? Every scholar will tell you that it is a figment of the mapmakers imagination, that the map was merely an intuitive idea that the Earth must be in balance. My studies have shown that there is the possibility that the landmass was real, the mapmakers weren't just making it up!
