Venus Express Sends First Color Images
from Venus: the "Hyperdimensional Planet" ....

After a quick interplanetary journey of 153 days (below), Europe's latest
unmanned foray across the solar system -- an ambitious mission called "Venus
Express" -- successfully retrorocketed into orbit around the second planet out
from the Sun, early Tuesday morning, April 11th. Venus has historically been
called a "twin" of Earth -- because it is almost the same size (95%) and mass
(81%) as our own planet. Its history and evolution are considered critical
windows to the origin and evolution of other inner solar system worlds,
including Earth.
It was only after the Space Age dawned, however, and the first unmanned NASA
probe, Mariner 2, flew by Venus in 1962, that it was confirmed that the planet
is anything but a terrestrial "twin" or "sister planet" ... that Venus, in fact,
possesses an environment which the late Carl Sagan aptly described as "the
closest physical environment meeting the classic descriptions of 'Hell' we are
likely to encounter in our lifetime ...."
The Venus Express Mission, over the coming two years, promises to literally
"lift the veil" on many of the truly baffling mysteries confronting planetary
scientists about this highly enigmatic, perpetually cloud-shrouded neighboring
world:
For instance:
Why (compared to the other inner solar system planets) does Venus rotate
backwards underneath those clouds ... and so slowly -- once every 243 days
(compared to its 225-day orbit of the sun, its "year" -- below))?; yet, why does
its atmosphere (and the clouds) rotate even faster ... also backwards ... in
only 4 days -- some 60 times the rate of the planet it envelopes!?
Where is the "excess energy" -- required to constantly accelerate this
enormous mass of rapidly spinning "air" ... 60 times faster than the planet
rotating underneath it -- coming from!?
