View Full Version : Time for meditation
i'm curious.
what time of the day or night do people find it best for them to meditate?
i've tried to develope the habit several times over the years but
without success.

i had a series of classes on meditation that were invaluable to me. i don't
want to go on too long about it as there was much material and i have my
opinions (ha, don't we all) but in specific answer to your question, i find that
an hour after waking but before eating is best. you aren't sleepy and you aren't
weighted down by food or stomach activity. a cup of warm lemon water is nice but
no coffee or tea yet. you want to be alert and relaxed. if i do it in the
afternoon or worse still at night, i just fall asleep and that's no good!
whenever you do it, it is really best that it's been 2hrs. since you ate (and
optimially, no meat or dairy) to get best results. if you want more info on what
i learned, you can certainly e-mail me directly and i'll try to give you what i
can.
i hope that helps, and please, don't give up. it's worth it.

valarie

if is established that meditation is for to find the mind behind all & to
further the course of the universe-in other words-to further order in
things-then meditate anywhere,anytime,a step at a time,as it were...i use a
certain mantra involving the word'om' & i ask god how much i should
meditate.if i were you, don't worry about having an "experience" while
meditating,just do it.while sitting,walking,while doing
laundry,whatever..before sleeping,after awaking-just look at it as a tonic
for the mind.anyway, that's my 2cents worth. ---zorchdarrel,god bless.

pi: the cayce readings indicate between 2 & 3 o'clock, both am and pm,
as 'the' optimum time for meditation. it may be that has changed as a
consequence of planetary movements, or that the time was for a local
area.
in truth, it seems impossible to determine 'best' time unless one is
willing to acknowledge there's a 'worst' or even a 'bad' time for
people to meditate. to begin with, meditation is a unique experience.
phooey, fooey, for having a best time to meditate. it could be a first
step; next step would be a time for people to pray or attend church or
repent sin, etc. in other words, why create a prison of right & wrong
for the soul by separating & promoting 'best' time versus one time. i
reiterate, phooey :) we / you / i unique one all i / you / we...
plse look for the time, not a best time, to meditate.
as about this life: don't take it too seriously, we'll never get out of
it alive anyhow.
so about meditation: don't take it too seriously, we'll never know what
we get out of it anyhow.
love & peace, pi

any time you can is better than not at all (implicit assumption: just do
it)! personally, first thing in the morning (after shower etc.) and last
thing at night before bed :-)
different traditions offer various esoteric answers, none of which
precisely agree with each other.
in kind regards,
adam.

it can be hard to get into a rhythm with everything going on in life
(wife, kids, works, etc). i've struggled with this also. but you
can also meditate during a lot of activities. you can
even "meditate" while jogging! you just clear the mind and focus on
your steps or your breathing. try "one minute" meditations between
meetings at work. again, just close your eyes and focus on your
breath. do this enough and mysteriously you start to find the time
for 10 min meditations +++.
i even consider catching yourself from thinking about the past and
the future and focusing on the moment a form of meditation.
and don't beat yourself up over your up till now lack of success.
it's counter productive.
regards, darryl
