Hi, Folks!
Today I took my usual shortcut through the Catholic Cemetery (where both my
parents-in-law are buried and where there is also a tombstone that has the
names "Abbott" and "Costello" on it with the Abbott above the Costello -- I
do have a picture of that somewhere -- almost as good as the Amigone Funeral
Home in Buffalo, NY) to go to my parents house when my husband spotted a
beautiful red fox on one of the empty hillsides we were driving by. We
changed directions and drove slowly up the road nearest to where the fox was
and got within about 10 yards before it jumped away -- rather than running
like a dog or a cat, it looked more like it jumped or hopped like a rabbit.
I don't think I have ever seen a red fox outside of the zoo. I live in a
pretty well urbanized suburb in upstate NY. This particular cemetery is
located in a very hilly area, and is most definitely sacred to the Onondaga
Indians who are indigenous to this area and continue to have a very strong
presence here. I need to ask one of my Onondaga friends about this as it is
clear there is a spiritual message here.
Anyway, it was mid-afternoon and sunny and more like Fall than Winter.
Foxes are normally most active in pre-dawn or twilight hours, so it is
interesting that this one was just standing there on an open hillside,
looking around and just stood there for a while as we approached instead of
just running away as soon as it saw the car coming near. It was almost like
a waking dream that my husband, my son and I mutually participated in. I
guess I will be asking for a dream tonight to try to understand the meaning
of this event.
This is particularly interesting because I have long felt that the fox is
one of my power animals and that fox medicine is important for me to
understand. So, I can't help but feel there is some message in this event
that I need to understand. Just wondering if anyone else here has had such
experiences and what their understanding of them is. I always feel there is
some important meaning in unexpectedly seeing wild animals fairly close.
Oh, this was the SECOND interesting and unusual event since yesterday.
Yesterday we took our dog for a run in the back woods of the Erie Canal park
near our home. We take him there often and last summer I lost a pair of
sunglasses that I especially liked somewhere in those woods. Well,
yesterday we were walking in some dense brush and I looked down and, by
golly, there were the sunglasses that I thought were gone forever!!!
Completely intact with not a scratch on them after being buried in several
snowfalls and ice floes and subject to potential destruction by deer or
other humans or doggies. So, I was still chewing on that one when the fox
showed up today! Would this be considered synchronicity??? AND today is
01/22!!! hmmmm.
Love, Peace, Thanks,
Christiane
