View Full Version : Trigger deactivation techniques

Long time lurker here. I've enjoyed the group & discussions, but my
computer time is limited due to physical recovery from trauma. Just
wanted to pitch in here, as I have experience with the eye movement
stuff. My daughter's counselor has used the previously discussed
technique with my daughter, boyfriend and best friend - all with
excellent results. Although I have seen her work with the eye movement
version (boyfriend), she does the same thing via other means.
With my daughter, she placed a small device in each hand which
alternately emitted a buzzing sensation. On another occasion, she sat
on the floor and alternately tapped my daughter's left and then right
foot throughout the exercise. I don't remember exactly how she
explained it, but I do remember that the important thing was alternately
stimulating the left and then right side of the brain over and over,
regardless of the method of stimulation. In less than 15 minutes my
daughter went from very distressed (she has ocd, so I mean VERY
distressed) over an embarrassing experience at school, to having NO
emotions attached to the incident at all. The feelings did not return,
and it was as though it never happened (although she did remember it
when questioned). My daughter's ocd is severe and the results were
amazing.
While I have seen it work very well, I feel uncomfortable with it.
Being very recently awakened, I have many issues, triggers & blocks that
I am just now beginning to discover. Although tedious and sometimes
frustrating, when I go within to discover the source of a conflicting
belief system, trigger or fear, I feel I'm making progress and learning
from my experiences. If I just buzz or tap it away, have I learned
anything? If not, does it matter?
I spent 42 years suppressing and controlling (surviving!) and would love
to feel comfortable just tapping those 42 years away, but somehow it
feels like cheating. A personal mantra during my first year of self
discovery comes from Edgar Cayce - Know thyself. When I've buzzed
myself into nirvana, will I know myself any better?
Sorry if I've prolonged a taboo discussion, but I would be interested in
others' opinions of these types of short cuts. Have a self aware day,
Darla

I too have found these bilateral stimulation techniques, whether it
was visual or auditory or kinesthetic (touch) very helpful in
releasing triggers. I know little about the experience of children
with this, if their process is different from adults or not. But
sometimes when I've done this work, I have very emotional reactions,
and other times, hardly any overt reaction (i.e., like your
daughter?)
yet felt afterwards that tremendous change had happened. It has been
my personal experience that when I have done the more psychological
work of processing my thoughts and feelings and beliefs around some
experience (i.e., KNOW THYSELF) and then I STILL get triggered in
other circumstances despite this knowing, that these techniques were
very useful...
Referencing DW's posting about nutrients, neurochemical processes,
etc., in clearing trauma/triggers, there does seem to be that part of
me that is denser consciousness -- the physical body and ego
personality -- that "needs" help sometimes to release and to heal
even tho I have mentally and emotionally and spiritually understood
and processed something.

When I have used the bilateral stimulation techniques, I have always
REMEMBERED the event -- in fact, I often discover NEW insights -- but
the event loses its emotional charge, I no longer feel REACTIVE to it
though I can still access my thoughts and feelings about it. It
becomes an experience I've had rather than an experience that HAS ME,
that triggers me to automatically react in old ways in new
situations. IMHO, I believe this is in line with LofO teachings that
focus on letting go of outcomes (ie, deactivating the trigger makes
it possible to let go), living in the present moment, practicing non-
attachment and non-aversion and, generally, being loving. Most of
all, I feel I gained a deeper and more spiritual/compassionate
appreciation of self and other-selves when I used such techniques. I
consistently felt lighter and less judgmental of self and other-
selves, so it became more possible for me to KNOW (more of) MYSELF.
And that's BIG growth for me...and seems consistent with LofO, in my
view. (Know yourself, know the Creator. It's all ONE.)
And like anything else, it is not a magic cure all and will surely
not resonate with everyone. So, Darla, may your journey be a gentle
one in whatever ways you feel called to grow. Love/Light, Kathy

EFT this appears to be the pinnacle of simplicity and effectiveness.
EFT = Emotional Freedom Technique.
The process is simple, and incoorporates the concept of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic
Programming, which describes the relationship between language used and
physiology) and the subtle energy systems of the body and meridians. The
practice of EFT is based on the belief that any and all negative emotions and
feelings are caused by disruptions in the bodies energetic system. EFT uses a
combination of tapping the meridian points and using language-affirmation type
phrases to clear the energetic disruptions caused by specific events in ones
life or feelings that correspond to said disruptions.
The process is very simple...you say something like 'even though i have this
pain in my knee i deeply and completely accept myself' while tapping on the
meridian points (outlined in the free e-manual at emofree.com.) 'tuning in' to
the pain or emotion is essential at this point because the disruption cannot be
cleared without being brought into your energy system again. anyways all the
info is on the site, check it out if you have a little time or if youd like i
can explain in further to anybody.
this is not a product. just a technique with a long history of
remarkable effectivness in clearing negative behaviour and limiting
conditions. the only problem i have run into is not wanting to release my
problems and i still havent done EFT for that. "feels like cheating" is a
similar thought. you DONT WANNA RELEASE YOUR PROBLEMS because the co-dependency
of being a victim within your reality gives you security.
being addicted to having problems. Yep i remember when i first
heard about EFT and said "this wont work for me, thats not how i do things". i
said i like to get my hands dirty, i like to be tere for every little incident
that my 'problems' create. to learn all taht i can. but the only reason i want
to learn all that i can is so i can be completely happy and if i overlook that
possibility, then THAT is cheating myself. so you are where i am at. would love
to feel comfortable tapping it away...so the next step is tapping away the
feeling of being cheated for releasing my problems!!! Its not the only effective
thing to do in the world...and i had a lot of resistance to giving my own power
to release my problems and limitations on my own to a technique that does it for
me. but it comes down to the fact that when i have the opportunity to grow, do i
do it or not? thats taking my power. anyways i ahve gone on long
enough. love, me
