Poll: Attack Bases Despite Civilian Deaths
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Seventy-one percent of Americans want the U.S.
military to strike against terrorist bases and the countries that
support them even if there is a high likelihood that civilians would
also be killed, according to a new Newsweek poll.

---do people have no heart? thats women and children who will be
murdered and all those citizens approve? Is this a joke? THey have
all been manipulated into wanting bloodlust. The scary thing is it
makes us JUST like the terrorists, which probably were known about my
the secret govt ..perhaps supported as others have said as part of
their twisted plans. But in the end, the american people seem to get
what they deserve..if they really want to kill innocent women and
children..i have to admit, perhaps it is instant karma that
happening. Then y should we be shocked when the terrorists kil
civilians too..and they will kill more. Did all the christians hear
jesus say and eye for an eye? I dont recall that as a teaching. I
thought it was love and compassion. Things are getting very screwed
up and in a lot of ways i feel like just unplugging totally and if im
bombed then fine.if not..at least i wont be feeding energy into this
beast now being set loose. Meditation is the only thing i feel i can
contribute to positively changing things. Peace all...hope im not
alone at being outraged at the opinion of 71% of the us citizens
wanting babies killed.

Hey Osterich,
I'll dig the hole for you and stick your head in the
sand while noble men give their lives to protect your
freedom with your head in the sand. You are what is
called a lukewarm spirit, God despises lukewarm
spirits! God loves a believer embued with the faith
that moves millions! How can lukewarm prove their
faith?

I'm not really sure what to say. I think it's better if I remain
silent. Your reponse speaks for itself.

Read the wondeful post by David on Afghani Perspective. Like I said,
I do not support the killing of innocent children and women who have
no role in the terrorist attacks. To be honest, I still have no idea
what you are talking about when you reponded to my post.

I feel like I just did a "Jerry Falwell". I take back the comment
that the American people get what they "deserve". I think sometimes
one's emotions colors one's perspective, and this had been quite an
emotional week. The news report that 71% would accept and support the
death of civilians in Afghanastan DID make me very upset. In fact, I
think after reading the insightful post by David on Afghani
perspective that in fact what is needed is education of the American
people. Right now, they have no idea of the situation. If they even
had a taste of the information in David's post I bet the number of
those supporting the killing of civilians would drop tremendously.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another post, the media don't seem
to be doing their job in that respect, and considering the
consequences, their stirring up of patriotism for war and not clearly
explaining the facts about Afghanastan, may in fact be a kind of
crime in a way, as the result would be Americans would support the
killing of innocent civilians. Hopefully a more comprehensive
dialogue will ensue. If it doesn't, I will be very suspicious as to
the media's motivation. But without opening that can of worms yet,
I'll just take a wait and see approach for now.
I do offer my apolagies if my remarks were in the wrong spirit. It
was not my intention. Hopefully, the general thrust of the post makes
that clear.

I don't think this poll is accurate, though It seems many folks in my
vicinity share this attitude, I don't think it's 71%. How the
question was asked and how people responded could give it a different
percentage. For instance, "yes, if we have proof that such and such
country did this, and we have located their terrorist bases, we
should strike that base and make our best effort to avoid civilian
casualties", will receive the same percentage point as the person who
responds "Hell Yeah!! We should nuke the entire east and Canada if
they complain about it!" I am confident there are more peace loving
folks in the U.S. then these polls and the media would lead us to
believe. You can't blame folks for wanting to defend themselves, and
I thinking the war loving peoples views are being lumped in with the
peace lovers who believe those responsible should be brought to
justice, even if those responsible turn out to be a country's
government, in which trying to overthrow that government would
undoubtedly bring about many civilian casualties.
