I had been involved in some sort of civil disobedience which had
happened late at night. I was driving north from a southern state. I
came up to a large traffic backup where everyone was getting out of
their cars. I soon found myself huddled with companions in a large
tent full of people in a woodland environment. My wife Donna was next
to me, and I noticed an old boyfriend of hers outside the tent
hammering in a fencepost with chicken wire, enclosing us all in.

Soon we were ushered into a room with tables in rows and with
identical clipboards loaded with about a half inch of paperwork each.
A magistrate sat on a raised platform in the corner. We were
instructed to find the clipboard with our name on, and to fill out all
the forms.

I sat next to Donna and began looking through my wallet for
identification and discovered that my dollar bills were all stapled
together. A voice told us to take special note of a colorful booklet
in our kit, and to not lose it. During our stay at this place this
was to be our guide. Donna's booklet looked like mine, with a
colorful photograph of about fifty smiling happy people in a group as
if they were at camp. I looked inside for a mention of the legal
cause for our detention, but was too cautious to ask the magistrate
myself.

Her booklet had a different emblem than mine though. The emblem in
the corner of the cover had a blue stripe and said something like
'Friendship through cooperation' but mine had a purple stripe and said
something like 'Integrity through focused effort.'

From this I understood that Donna was headed for a group of light
offenders and that I was headed for more severe labor.

Donna was asking questions about the bathroom facilities, and wanted
to know what to do if we could not use them. I recall that she had
been carrying a frying pan with leftover food in it before we entered
this room.

The mood in this part of the dream had me wondering a lot about what
would happen and how long we would stay here. My thoughts went to my
son and what would happen to him and other people that I happened to
see. My greatest concerns were for my wife and family.

The earlier part of the dream puzzles me. All I remember was that it
happened at night, and that the license plates of my car were
deliberately obscured and that firearms were involved, perhaps a
shotgun.

(It's worth noting that on waking I mused that this sort of dream
could have been delivered to help promote an attitude of fear, and I
wondered if I'd attracted the attention of an agent interested in
doing that. This thought bears on what happened in the next dream,
and I wonder about the magistrate character.)

5:12 am

I recognised this dream scenario as a repeat of a tragic dream that
had happened earlier. I was in the same long room and a shooting was
about to happen. My brother stood nearby, and the event looked like
it would happen again.

"Stop!" I yelled as soon as I recognised this, and all the action
froze. I rushed to the center of the room where there was a clerk's
counter and a man behind the counter who had not frozen and was
animated and appeared to be about to climb over the counter towards
me.

I ran to him and held up my hands and said "Freeze!"

He began to speak, with a condescending grin, but I got another idea.

"You are not doing anything! This is my dream!" I continued. "In
the name of the one infinite creator I greet you and send you my love
and the love of the entire universe."

He glared at me as he began to float into the air, but his extremities
began to dissappear with a little dumpling of the space around them as
if it were a membrane he was departing through.

"Hello," I said as just his head was still visible. His eyes bulged
out and the last of him vanished as I finished with "and goodbye!"

End of record
