Group,
Just out of curiosity I went back and read some of what was deleted -
the Raelian cult material (which undoubtedly exists on the Net if
someone has the interest - just not here.)
TRIGGER WARNING - If you have experienced any form of sexual abuse,
especially as a child, I recommend ***NOT*** reading this post unless
you are with a trained therapist, as it could be extremely triggering,
especially if the abuse happened in a cult context.
This document is practically a case study in New Age cult brainwashing
literature. The Law of One teaches the importance of free will, and
hence suggestions are never offered as dogma, only as something that is
more or less optimal for one's path. The most frequently repeated phrase
in the entire Raelian selection is "You must." It shows up over and over
again, in mind-numbing repetition - no gray area, no "maybe," no "this
might be more optimal," but rather "you must." This is, according to the
Law of One, the negative path.
This means that a cult member doesn't have to do any thinking for his or
herself, as the cult has taken care of all of that for them - they have
covered all the bases with "musts." This stops the person from having
any of their own process.
However, being an expert in sexual abuse crisis intervention, something
caught my eye about 1/5th of the way through the document. It clearly
sets the stage, again with "musts," for child molesting by group elders.
Not only does it set the stage, but it implies that the children are
obligated to do it for their own spiritual evolution, as it removes the
need to "meditate or reflect" while on the spiritual path. Remember that
abnormal sexual perversions are often part of the makeup of male cult
leaders, such as Marshall Applewhite.
Just so that you know what I'm getting at, I'm going to include a
sequential set of sentences from this document. All I'm going to do is
delete some of the sentences in between, but I won't disrupt the order
in which the ones I choose have appeared in the document. Consider how
much "gray area" there is in these words to legitimize the sexual abuse
of children. From here on out this is all excerpts unless I come back in
with my initials DW:
>Sensual Education
SENSUAL education is one of the most important things, and yet at the
moment it scarcely exists at all.
You will awaken the mind of your child, but you will also awaken his
or her body, for the awakening of the body is linked to the awakening
of the mind. All those who seek to numb the body are also numbing the
mind....
A sensual individual is far more likely to be in harmony with
infinity, because such a person can feel it without it having to
meditate or reflect...
DW: So you "WILL" "awaken" your child's body, which they get into how
this is done in a minute, as it removes the need to "meditate or
reflect." The molesting of children becomes an obligation for their
soul's health. Remember, he said "awaken the body", not "awaken the mind
to the body." "Awaken the body" clearly implies a hands-on approach,
though he is careful enough never to outright say it. The "individual"
who is sensual is not given an age limit.
>To say nothing to your children about their sexual organs is wrong,
and although it is better to explain what they are for, this is still
not enough.
You must explain how they can gain pleasure from them.
DW: Right. And there is enough gray area in the writing to make the
definition of "explaining" this fairly broad. This also implies that
children, prior to sexual maturity, will "gain pleasure" from their
sexual organs. This is a common delusion of pedophiles and it leads to
the legitimization of abuse.
>The same
goes for the sexual organs. They are not just for satisfying our
natural needs or for ensuring reproduction, but also for giving
pleasure to others and ourselves...
DW: So now let's tick down the list: "You will awaken his or her sensual
organs so that he or she doesn't have to meditate or reflect... it is
not enough to explain what they are for... you must explain how they can
gain pleasure from them." And now the next installment: you must teach
your kids that their sexual organs are for "giving pleasure to others
and ourselves."
>You will teach your child all this without shame but,
on the contrary, with love, clearly explaining that he or she was
made to be happy and blossom fully - that is to say, to enjoy life
with all the senses and with their full force.
DW: So now we also get that a child must be "made to be happy and
blossom fully without shame," enjoying the "full force" of all the
senses. Force?
>You must never be ashamed of your body or of your nakedness, for
nothing displeases our creators more than to see those they created
feeling ashamed of the appearance that has been given to them.
You will teach your children to love their bodies and every part of
the ElohimÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃ ÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂfs creation, because in loving their creation, we love
them as well.
DW: So we "MUST" teach our children to "love their bodies by not being
ashamed of their nakedness" while we "awaken their sensual organs" to
"give pleasure to others and ourselves". This guy is quite thorough.
Each one of our organs was created by our parents, the Elohim, so that
we might use it feeling not shame, but happiness at using something
for which it was designed. If the act of using one of our organs
brings pleasure, it means that our creators wish us to have that
pleasure.
DW: Now the obligation becomes religious - we do not have free will. We
do not own our bodies - they were created by "our parents" for
"happiness at using something for which they were designed." Regardless
of a person's age, "If the act of using one of our organs brings
pleasure, it means that our creators wish us to have that pleasure." So
it becomes your spiritual duty to teach your children how to "pleasure
others and themselves" with their sexual organs.
>Every individual is a garden that should not be left uncultivated. A
life without pleasure is an uncultivated garden. Pleasure is the
fertilizer that opens up the mind.
DW: The child "should not" be left "uncultivated" without "pleasuring
him/herself and others sensual organs" and thereby "opening up" the
mind. Notice words like "fertilizer" and "opening up," as this can mean
more than it is written as.
>Asceticism is useless unless it is
a temporary ordeal designed to train the mind to dominate the body.
But once we have succeeded in the ordeal that we have set ourselves -
which must always be limited in time - we should once more enjoy the
pleasures of life.
DW: So in a not so subtle way, by context the cult leader is here saying
that not teaching children to pleasure others is an "ordeal" that must
be "limited in time."
>Asceticism can be accepted as the fallow period of that garden which
is an individual - that is to say, a momentary pause in the search
for pleasure, which enables us to appreciate it better later on.
DW: So the whole idea of meditation, discipline, et cetera is a
"momentary pause in the search for pleasure." Again, we can see where
the real focus of this group is.
>You will accustom your children to having more and more freedom by
always treating them as individuals. You will respect their tastes and
inclinations, as you would like them to respect your own.
DW: So this is saying that you must "respect the tastes and
inclinations" of the child with regard to what perversions you might
visit upon it. More bluntly, try to find out what "pleasuring" your
child "likes."
I did give a trigger warning at the beginning, so I hope that those of
you who read this far can absorb this catalyst. I felt that it would be
a good idea to back up why I referred to this as "cult" writing instead
of just making a proclamation. I admit that although I have never been
raped or abused myself, I have a great deal of empathy for those who
have, regardless of when in life it happened. To see it couched in
so-called "spiritual" terms with the word "Must" and "Will" all through
it gives me a lot of catalyst - or to put it in plainer language, it
makes me sick.
I do hope that posting this analysis can in some way stop the abuse of
even one child. I know from in-depth work with survivors that child
molestation and abuse creates very deep psychological scars that will
need to be worked with throughout one's life. Some are more successful
than others in being able to return to a full functionality. I do
believe that healing is possible in these cases, but there are no quick
and easy solutions - there will be a lot of work to do.
I know that this is not a very enjoyable thing to read about. Some like
the darkness, some like the light. At this time in our history, all
these buried secrets of the human experience are coming to light. It is
the dawning of a day when unconditional love will be the law of the
land, when we can all respect each other's free will and love each other
without coercion or force. We can start creating that new world right
now in our minds and hearts, by always asking "where is the love in this
moment."
Peace be with you -
