Group,
For those on email, I apologize for Pipul 36's post "The Keys" getting
through - we had taken him off of moderated status in the past. I don't
think I've ever seen this much text posted at one time - 213KB is a new
record. That has to be bordering on 40-50 pages long. I gather that this
was a large body of text from the controversial Rael cult, which
recently got international media fanfare for allegedly performing human
cloning.
Posting such a large excerpt from an established, decidedly "sketchy"
for-profit cult (i.e. performing media tricks to attract attention) is
definitely not going to fly here, as the purpose of such text is to
recruit new members, who will then find their local 'Center," be
brainwashed and asked to give up their life's earnings to the cult. I do
not have an "official" position on cloning but this group believes that
it is the key to immortality - that they will keep cloning themselves
and therefore never die - a decidedly un-informed perspective. The
founder had a UFO contact experience at one time, but this certainly
does not mean that the information coming through is positive.
The current status of cloning technology makes it very likely that the
offspring will suffer - the research shows that they grow to a certain
point and suddenly take on debilitating disease conditions, such as mice
that suddenly swell to enormously overweight levels. A person may well
choose to incarnate in such a situation for the purpose of catalyst, but
I feel that if the technology is still so uncertain, it is better not to
open the possibility for this to happen.
Cult material will read well, perhaps very well, and offer some
interesting ideas. That's the bait that gets you in. Way back in the
archives, circa early 2001, we dealt with the TFEL cult and I posted
information at the time about the various aspects of cult technique and
what criteria have to be in place for it to be legitimately accused of
being a cult. Not too many groups truly fit that mold, but the Raelians
are definitely one of the ones that do.
These are specifics to that particular post, but in general, everyone
should remember - this is a BIG list and the policies need to be
honored. Any post of this size will cause immediate damage to the people
who get a daily digest and print out its contents without carefully
checking its size first.
It gets even worse when people reply to the post without deleting the
dead text - before long we have a 1 megabyte download, which can tie up
a dial-up modem system for more than 10 minutes and you literally cannot
get the rest of your mail unless you just sit through it.
I have taken the unprecedented step of deleting this huge message from
the board so that this "domino effect" will not happen.
The rule is that if you didn't write it yourself, it should only have a
2-3 paragraph excerpt included with a link. If you did write the post,
bear in mind that we do not accept "channeled" submissions or content
written for a general spiritual audience outside of this group either -
everyone has joined here to discuss the Law of One body of work. There
are plenty of other groups for more general discussions and posting of
material.
If a person is generating material that does not specifically address
the group topics and guidelines of discussion, they are welcome to
create their own Yahoo group and post a link to it. I should mention
that Paul Kandrah was extended the opportunity to do this and never got
back to us on this issue, but the offer still stands for anyone here.
As for Pipul, I have put you back on moderated status so that you don't
have to be embarrassed like this again. I have appreciated your
contributions and hope that you will continue to do so. It is a
legitimate mistake if you're not being careful and not keeping up with
most of the posts and discussion guidelines. Things like this are how we
learn what not to do. As always, my comments are offered in love and in
the interest of greater group harmony.
Peace be with you -
- David
