View Full Version : Within the Shadow

Greetings,

I have observed the many posts that filter through during the passing hours
and counting of days. Each idea as is presented is interesting in each of
its expressive views. It is a wonder how Alice stepped through the looking
glass as she began to question the realities she reflected upon herself.
And by similar like we see through our own colored glass. It shades the
world with different hues, making a singular transitory moment in our
density take upon the bent of the many, painting the world with countless
colors.

I find myself reflective upon these things. With each I consider the
validity that one sees within their own eyes as it carves a new shape within
my vision. Each point is integrated, whether received or rejected as it
still serves to further define each nuance along the many paths.

With this in mind, I shall endeavor to present a view which may be
considered, through my own observations and moments of clarity with my own
path. If it serves any benefit to another, then my purpose in sharing has
been served. If it does not, it shall fade gently upon the waters of Spirit
as a curl upon the lapping waves.

This view is to identify that which some view as the greatest enemy within -
The Shadow Self. It is that aspect of us that each possesses. It is that
point of contention that many feel continues to torment relentlessly as we
seek to push it further back within the mind and ignore its grating upon our
lives as we act out in frustration at other selves. Ah, but verily comes a
moment of clear light that strikes in just the right moment. For that which
many thought for so long to be the constant antagonist in our lives is,
through great potential, our greatest of ally.

So one might wonder how such a conclusion can be drawn. It is this very
aspect of the self that reminds us of who we are. It reminds us of our
potential. Never forget that each one of us possesses the ability for the
"greatest" and "worst" aspects of human existence. These are simply
experiences that shape who we are by the choices we make. Sometimes we must
experience that which we are not to better define that which we are. This
shadow self reminds us to be humble. It reminds us to be aware. It points
to all of our negative potentials. It makes us aware of the potential
consequences of choices and paths that we follow. If we choose to avoid it
and run from it, it will only become louder. It is that aspect we cannot
avoid as it is ever present within us. We could, however, hearken to its
counsel as a vigilant reminder. Show thyself and other selves compassion.
Have understanding for the human experience. Be the light which each of you
seeks to be. But do not push away that which you feel is different. That
does not mean becoming such, but it does mean to understand and accept as it
is, nonetheless.

We often get caught up in our daily struggles. Sometimes they can feel
overwhelming as we seek respite. But take heart in this as one may see the
potential gift wrapped within such a challenge. It is that very challenge
that emboldens the greatest potential for growth. We see those things
within the self that are the most difficult to only yet turn them into our
greatest strengths. As we gaze into the world with child-like wonder, we
behold the miracle that is life. We begin to see the joy that is the human
experience. We understand that it is the challenge that keeps life
interesting and changing. It is the Tao that moves with the ebb and the
flow. It is those moments where we stand upon a great cliff overlooking a
mighty river. It crisscrosses the land with each turn. We jump headlong into
its waters and struggle against it. The more we struggle, the more we are
pulled under. And then we realize if we stop the struggle, we begin to rise
to the surface and stay afloat. As each corner turns, we bump and crash
into the land. Then we begin to realize we can see the turns as they come
and begin to turn with the waters so that we hit less and less. Then we
realize more that we begin to predict each turn as it comes and know when to
turn. And then we realize with more passing day, that we are the river. It
is the river that is shaped by the land, but it is the river that shapes the
land. Each has its place and each works harmoniously together. When we
realize that we are the river, we understand and become apart of that flow.

So with each of you I speak words of solace, kindness and peace. I speak
unto you as I speak to myself. You are as I am, as I am as you are. For
unto your waters I reflect and I see myself gazing back at me. Thank you
all for the experiences. Thank you all for the moments of growth. Thank you
all for being.

Sincerely,

-David Bryson
