i went to a interesting book reading
tonight, "the earth has a soul,
nature writings of c.g.jung" by
meredith sabini, north atlantic 2002
the book is intended as a meditation,
to be read slowly over a long time;
the author is amish without technology,
the book is printed on tree-less kenaf
paper. in a sentence, we have become
distracted from connection with our
million year old global unconscious
by the imbalances created in our
civilized existence which is rectified
by a return to aspects of our primitive
nature. many fascinating points - i'll
share two in the context of this group.
fascinated, pat
first, she touches on the idea of psychic
"projection" that is, "projecting ourselves
into the things around us." jung saw
a need for us to realize that everything
unconscious within us is revealed in those
around us. this is a means of obtaining
higher consciousness, to obtain a deeper
understanding of our "shadow" side to
know ourselves better. primitive man lived
in an undifferentiated world where everything
was real and objective (i.e. dreams) and had
an easier time of projection because of that
perspective.
second, she touches on
"physician, heal thyself" with a quote
continued from nietzsche:"then wilt
thou also heal thy patient. let it
be his best cure to see with his eyes
him who maketh himself whole."
assuming responsibility for our own
problems, experiencing the chaos in
our lives, recognizing corresponding
chaos within ourselves, then working
to rectify the chaos within in curing
our situation. a call to balance things
that are out of balance. a return to
the tao, with the rainmaker tale of
richard wilhelms(i-ching translator.)
p.s. the author is a licensed psychologist
with interest in establishing a dream
institute, exploring crop circle phenomena,
and director of depth psychology programs
out of berkeley california.
