Hi everyone! Just wondering...
Have you guys ever watched the show Stargate SG-1? It's a pretty popular show in
the Sci-Fi
channel, and unfortunately for me I'm a late comer to the show. Reason why I'm
talkin' about
Stargate SG-1 is because I just finished watching the season finale this evening
and -- to my
pleasant surprise -- some of the characters in the show are "Ascended!" If you
aren't familiar with
the characters from the show (or the movie, for the matter), Daniel Jackson, a
regular member of
the Stargate team on Earth, ascended to a higher plane of existence at the end
of season 5. In
season 6's season finale (the episode I watched this evening), Daniel Jackson
"visits" Colonel
Jack O'Neill (Played by Richard Dean Anderson... remember? MacGyver?) and tells
him that
he and the SG-1 team have to return to the planet Abydos (the planet the
original Stargate
team visited in the movie with Kurt Russel and James Spader) and prevent a being
called
Anubis from finding the Eye of Ra. Jack O'neill asks the newly ascended Daniel,
"If you're so
powerful in your higher plane of existence, why can't you just stop Anubis
yourself?" Daniel
replies, "I can't. How can I explain this? There are rules to being ascended,
and one of them is
that we can't directly interfere and involve ourselves with the goings on in
your plane of
existence. To tell you the truth, I shouldn't even be talking to you right now."
(I paraphrased all
this, by the way) In the end of the episode, Daniel Jackson (ascended, mind you)
tries to make
a deal with Anubis: he will give him the Eye of Ra so long as he does not harm
the people of
Abydos ever. Daniel convinces the SG-1 team to give up the Eye of Ra so that
they can return
to earth safely with the Ancient Stone Tablets they also found in the pyamid.
When Daniel
arrives at the mother ship of Anubis and hands him the Eye of Ra, he combines it
with his ship
and activates it destroy the planet Abydos. Daniel tries to contront him using
his Ascended
powers (a'la Obi Wan Kenobi), but is prevented by a mysterious higher force and
"disappears" before he can act. Anubis, with the Eye of Ra which amlifies his
mother ship's
power ten-fold, destroys the entire planet Abydos, but fortunately the SG-1 team
make it to the
Stargate and return to earth before the destruction. The SG-1 team tries to open
a wormhole to
Abydos via the Stargate, but are unable to make a connection with the planet.
After numerous
attempts, the team finally get a connection, and when they arrive at Abydos the
pyramid is still
prestine and intact. They then step out and before them they see the people of
Abydos
frolicking in their villages as if nothing ever happened. Jack O'neill asks one
of the villagers what
happened to Anubis destroying their planet? The villager (Sharaay) tells Jack
that Anubis DID
destroy the planet and all life in it, but "death is only the beginning of one's
path." Sharaay adds
that the Ascended were responsible for all this, and that when you return to
Earth through the
Stargate, they will never be able to return to Abydos again. He ends by saying,
"We'll meet
again. Just not now." and something to the affect of "You need not worry of the
path that awaits
you." They return home only with the Ancient Tablets, which Daniel Jackson told
the team hold
the secrets to finding the Lost City of the Ancients -- an ancient city of the
race that built the
Stargates and spread them all across the Universe, and have since then Ascended
long ago. In
other words, the search for Atlantis. By the way, the name of this episode I
watched was entitled
"Full Circle."
Amazing, huh?? What do you guys think of that? =)
L/L,
Brian
