hello,

i got this information from a local list i am on, so the times are central
standard. but it is very understandable for those of us that need it :)

fyi from amy: for a more cool info about the eclipse, visit here:

from: dianne griffin

the full moon in may is known as the milk moon or planting moon. it is also the
traditional dates to
celebrate of the birth, enlightenment, and death of buddha, a holy period called
vesak.

our earth and its moon are more alike in size then most of the other planets and
their moons. earth
is about 4 times bigger then the moon. jupiter and saturn are, on average, are
40 to 50 times
bigger then most of their moons. we, on earth, always see the same side of the
moon. the moon
rotates once, on its axis, for every orbit around earth.

a lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the earth's shadow. if we
were on the moon,
during a lunar eclipse, we would see the earth eclipsing the sun.

we will be able to view a full lunar eclipse on may 15th beginning around 8:00
p.m. when the moon
will get more and more dim as it enters the fuzzy edges of the shadow. beginning
at 9 p.m., the moon
slips into the darker part of the shadow. the total eclipse period begins at
10:40 p.m. and lasts
for about 25 minutes.

during the eclipse, our planting moon will be at perigee. perigee is the point
in the moon's orbit
where it comes closest to the earth. when the moon is at perigee tides become
unusually high or
low.

during a lunar eclipse, the moon is within the earth's shadow and receives
filtered light from the
sun. the light must filter through the earth's atmosphere. our atmosphere
absorbs the blue hues
from the sunlight. this filtration of light causes the moon to look red or
orange. the lunar
eclipse will be beautiful.

enjoy the show.
