View Full Version : Iconic Consciousness

I just heard a part of an interview with Stewart Brand, founder of
The Whole Earth Catalogue who initiated an effort to get a picture
of the earth from space by distributing buttons for 25 cents a piece
in the mid sixties that said, "Why haven't we seen a picture of the
earth yet?" Apparently, the US and Russia had been in space for
many years without publicly showing the obvious. Rod I believe had
some writings about this image as well. The earth was to become the
premier icon in the forefront of consciousness.

You see, the icon that the image of the earth helped to replace had
been in people's minds since 1945. The old icon that NEEDED
replacing was the image of the mushroom cloud from an exploding
atomic bomb.

These two images may tell the whole story thus far. That being
said, I do believe we are ready to behold the next icon for this
millennium. Does anyone have some suggestions as to what that
premier icon is going to be for our future now?

This should be interesting.

Hi Paul, Group,

Take a look at the 2012 Baktun icon and compare it to the jpg
link ... interesting indeed.
