I watched the views of the fall of Bagdad and the tumbling of the
statue of Saddam, I had memories of fall of the Berlin Wall. I have a
vision of a burly Iraqi, hammering against that base with a large
maul and thinking it will take all night at that rate. I was glad to
see that the marines helped out. The symbolism of the whole event
was incredible and could not been scripted in a more original way.

First the Iraqis tried but could not get rid of the dictator by them
selves even resorting to brute force and throwing their shoes at it.
Then the Marines came to help out and tried once and failed because
they tried to take out his legs. Then they went for the head, and
hooked on a heavy chain. Before they took the statue out the Marines
rubbed a US Flag in its face. Then they adorned the statue with a
pre-Saddam Iraqi flag, (and then the crowds cheered.) They then
pulled the statue down (and it was not easy) and the Iraqi's jumped
and stomped on it. Later Iraqi's were seen dragging the head in the
streets.

I sure hope the Americans realize from this that they may have
defeated Saddam's regime, they have not subjicated the Iraqi people.
Truely an interesting event to witness.

Some have speculated that the 2003 burification point would see the
fall of the "American Empire." Today it looks like a
different "empire" fell. I am perplexed.
