I am dying to hear David's interpretation....
I got into a huge discussion with my father (who saw it with me)
he was convinced the beings at the end were machine?
anyone else even remotely think that?
my aregument to him was that they couldn't have been because then they would
have had some "memory" of humanity, which they didn't, and they had multi
dimensional capabilities....
In response to the previous post...there were not many I thought who "loved"
the boy...just the mother, who was grieving severely....or that is all I
gathered...
one comment i did agree on with my Dad was it did seem to incorporate many
"old school" theories into one package....I didn't feel like a lot of "new"
information was out there....although it did spin it in a way that it felt
new....does that make sense?

Your last statement did make sence....
As far as anyone loving the boy....I guess I thought there was no way
that those people would have saved him at the carnival. Why save a
machine?
As far as the aliens being machines -well....I have to agree with
your dad. The aliens made statments in reagard to humans, as though
they were the only ones who could be characterized as having "life,"
this is very hard to explain - But I wish I could remember the actual
dialog - But based on their statmemnts I just got the idea that they
were not living.....But Im not totally confident of this.

--As far as the people saving the boy at the carnival, I felt my
response would have been the same. If I saw what looked like a
little boy pleading for his life in response to an action, not the
press of a button, I wouldn't care that anyone was telling me it was
a machine, let the kid go. I think it would be easy to love anything
that responds to stimuli with feeling. I think to most people
communicating with feeling equals life, and the other machines didn't
protest with feeling/fear. Perhaps as sub logi's we can create
consciousness, and most likely no two Davids would have been the
same, even though they were created with the same programming, they
would have all been exposed to different stimuli, making them
different people as they age. Just like us perhaps?

In the early part of the movie, the mother was much like the
mothers in these times that we hear about in the news who are
destructive to their children and even kill their children. But we
excused her, because the child was only a machine, or was he? He was
partly sentient, in that he was programmed to love her
unconditionally. Here we have a machine that can love unconditionally
and a human being who throws in the towel at the earliest
provocation. The boundaries between human and machine become thin.Had
she been in touch with her feelings, she would have known that it was
her offspring who was provoking the adopted child .
At the end of the movie,The child -robot was finally able to sleep
(showing that he had become "real") at the end of the perfect day with
his mother. When the mother filled him up with love , he was able to
fulfill his dream to evolve past his state of being a machine and
become human. It was a testimony to the power of love.

Dear Lesta,
I like your interpretation best of all. Especially the part where
conciousness is achieved through love. I think that love is perhaps
the single most consciousness elevating condition of the universe. As
you can see I am into beauty and love. Beautiful feelings are
something to work very, very hard for when beauty and love come
dilatorily. When beauty and love comes in ebulent waves and liberal
cascades, I normalize every single mist and ripple of love and I
embrace the beauty wholy and without a single caution or restraint. I
can know the inside of love as it curdles all feelings of self
loathing or doubt and esculpates my many, many loves. Loving you
always, sometimes as your b2tuff!

AI spoiler:
As far as the aliens being machines, I had the impression they were
in a higher vibration, In their astral bodies/light bodies so to
speak, as they had that glowing sparkling look. Also when the alien
being put his/her(asexual?) hand inches from the childs forehead, and
then they all grasped hands as they peered into his mind, I felt they
created the blue fairy image so that they could more easily question
him, get more information from him. If the blue fairy was just what
he wanted to see, why wouldn't he be able to see his mother? Why was
the lock of hair necessary? Regardless, I do believe our personal
mythology is the first thing we see in the afterlife, and maybe you
are saying it's purely symbolic/subliminal and not part of the
storyline. Well I think its definitely a movie you'll probably get
more from seeing it twice, I have a feeling I missed a lot.

The idea of artificial intelligence somehow "taking over" and
attacking humanity was made vogue by Kubrick's own 2001, but these
days it has been superceded by worries of genetic engineering and the
like.

As far as symbolism is concerned - I understood the boy in the
helecopter not being able to get close to the blue fairy - I cant
quite remember what held him back------But what was really
interesting was the fairiswheel creating a cage that "locked him into
his position." Could this be some suggestion of a hardening of a
lower vibration, before he was unfrozen 2 thousand years later?

First of all, some sort of cataclysm had happened in only 2,000 years
that caused NY to be under an incredible amount of ice. The boy being
programmed to love unconditionally is a definite statement about what

dreams always do. Secondly, what fell on top of him was a Ferris
wheel. This has highly obvious references to the cycles of time that
the Initiates all know about; what goes around comes around. Also
notice that it was exactly 2,000 years later that the ETs came to

I whole-heartedly concur! I also know that sense of 'balance' when imbued
by the power of Love. Although I have not had the opportunity to go
see the movie, I am now compelled to do so.
The discussion about the symbology of the blue fairy and the other images
that have been described, lead me to believe that there may be another
important message blended into the film. In some of the ancient mystery
schools, one of the initiations and tests were to create a clay figure
and animate it, giving it the attributes of consciousness. One of the
secret teachings includes the knowledge of what can be accomplished with
the use of ultra violet blue light from the fourth seal. The seal that
imbues the beginnings of unconditional Love and allowing.
There are many forms and stories this takes on in the literature, and
it would be a simple matter to translate it to a technological machinated
boy as an example. But before speculating any further, I'm going to
the movie - so I can participate in the discussion intelligently.

I've been wondering that myself bjorn. If anyones studied
astrology in depth, you could make a case that that is our
programming. Perhaps free will only exists in that we can change
that programming.
No biggy here, but I've been thinking a lot about how the movie
showed all emotions stem from love. You create the ability to love,
you create fear, anger, hate, desire, sorrow, regret etc. I had just
never thought about that before.

In reading this AI spoiler post...I found it intriguing to see a reference to
a creature of hebrew mythology. The clay figure that is made and animated is
called a golem. The golem were created by ancient Jewish preists and animated
with a special tablet. That was placed in the mouth or under the tongue of
the figure to be animated...although this predominantly a slavic/jewish bit
of folklore, I found the similarity quite striking

Thankyou for putting a name on this...golem!
In many spiritual traditions, the initiates are required to animate a
figure, as a demonstration that they have mastered the quantum world
of collapsing waveform into matter and breathing the 'breath of life'
into mass. Another exquisite example of this in additon to the golem,
would be the European Alchemists who were given this task. You can read
about it in "The Red Lion", a fascinating and most memorable book!
AI portrays that aspect of our nature as human beings to replicate LIFE,
in new and creative ways - whether it be through technology or through
the spiritual sciences. Then there's always the satisfying harvest of
the organic gardener, growing incredible delights from tiny seeds. All
of this is to say, that from the quantum world of a mustard seed comes
the magnificent splendor of a fully unfolded reality.
Here's to our mastery of the human capacity for bestowing life upon all
that is...
