That is one cool picture...
Comet NEAT (C/2002 V1) - Another new comet was discovered last November. Its
currently located in the evening sky and is visible in binoculars, moving
through Pisces, Pegasus and Aquarius. The comet can be seen about 20 degrees up
in the west around 7 pm at the beginning of February and will be only about 4
degrees above the western horizon by the 12th. The comet should brighten from
5th to 2nd magnitude during this time. After the 14th, the comet will be below
the horizon and too close to the Sun to see. Comet NEAT will be closest to the
Sun on February 18 (0.1 AU) and may get as bright as -2 magnitude. It will then
be located only 6 degrees from the Sun as seen from Earth. The comet can still
be followed using images from the SOHO satellite. Go to:
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime-images.html
and check out the latest LASCO C3 images. The comet will be within the camera's
field-of-view from February 17-19.
