Hi Tony and ALL ~
There are many kinds of dreams indeed.... and everybody dreams every night,
whether they remember or not ......
Some come at night when we are sleeping, some come when we are awake but in
alpha consciousness, and some come during *normal* awareness....
To *me* anything that comes into my consciousness without logical thought
process, I classify in the realm of *dreams* ...
For ease of discussion, I divide them into *night* dreams and *day*
dreams.... with further subdivisions of the night dreams .....
In NIGHT dreams ...
There are what I call *junk* dreams ... The mind unloading the events of
the day, and trying to extract the lessons from it ... these are seldom
remembered, as they go directly *to* soul/spirit.
Then we have *nightmares* ... these are scary ones, where we usually wake
up with a pounding heart and a sense of doom..... these types we often
remember in toto ....
Then there are *night-visions* .. like a movie unfolding, that we are *not*
part of, but merely the observer.... These types can be further broken down
into "good/bad", depending on our own value systems .... these have so much
emotional impact on us, that we remember much/most if not all of it upon
awakening ....
Then there are the *night visions* that we consciously participate in ...
as if we were the *star* of that movie ....... sometimes remember some
elements of it .... but not always....
Then there are prophetic dreams .... all of us have them occasionally ..
some have them more vividly .. and some remember either parts or all of it
.... some of these prophetic dreams apply only to us personally, others to
the world arena .... [like the one described here recently about the space
shuttle]
Some of these prophetic dreams, if not most, are highly symbolic .... and
can *not* be made sense of, until an event it applies to occurs in
*reality* ....
And then we have *astral travel* in dreams or some call it *remote viewing*
... in these we realize *while dreaming* that our *self* is there and
directing the dream ..... these are usually, but not always consciously
remembered ......
Then we have another category, which I call *answers* ... when you go to
bed with a problem gnawing at the corners of your mind -- which you could
not resolve by logic -- in the waking state .... and the dream shows the
resolution of the problem .... these are almost always highly personal in
nature .....
Now, all of the above categories can also be applied to *waking
consciousness* ... when in other than beta mindfulness ....[except the junk
dreams] ....
Who among us have not had *daydreams* ... it used to be called *wool
gathering* :))
I get a GREAT deal of my problems resolved while standing at the kitchen
sink doing the dishes .... doing dishes requires no great mental skills ...
nor physical ones ... when I have a problem, or am *stuck* on something
[like the book I am writing] ... I put my hands into the hot soapy water
and my mind almost immediately goes into alpha ... and the answer to my
*stuckness* becomes crystal clear ....
And I often have *day visions* .... as I sit at my computer and stare into
space, thinking of nothing in particular ... a vision, or part of a vision
comes to mind .... this also happens often in meditation ....
Me dos centavos on the subject :))
Blessings,
Olga
