Some people don't like the rules, especially those
which try to curtail those topics that are blatantly
irrelevant to the core themes here on this list. It's
not really me usually, but rather the rules and my
best judgement as to whether they are being adhered
to.
When there is negativity, especially concerning my
role, I do my *UTMOST* to keep it off the list so as
not to bring y'all down with me. Some people have
accused me of being unfair (although they don't really
know since they haven't been here very long -
snakedancer I am looking in your direction :-) and
that's ok - that's between me, David, and the accuser
and I'll try to do a better job of policing that.
But the big ol' bottom line is that, although I wish I
could, I can't keep negativity off the list. Y'know,
it's cyclic, just like everything else. This list is
not independent of the same forces that influence all
human behavioral systems. And if something doesn't
sit with you, delete it! That's what I do - believe
me, I do NOT read all of the posts (besides those I
moderate). But there are diamonds in the rough, and
those diamonds - personified by those who truly do
share and contribute to the list - I am very grateful
for.
I haven't even read David's newest reading yet, so
I'll hop on that shortly - but it's been interesting
reading y'all's thoughts on it. Sorry for the delay
in moderated posts getting thru, too - my favorite
band, Brothers Past (www.brotherspast.com), had their
CD release party in Philly and I've been contemplating
the message of their CD, which I think is one of the
best I've ever heard, for a while. It definately
captures the loneliness, desperation, and ultimate
hope of those of us who know that there is more to
life than what we see right now. I should have
informed the other moderators, though, so sorry.
L/L
Jeremy

Dear Jeremy,
I appreciate the link to your favorite band and have downloaded some of
their clips. Some fine sounding music!
One of my new favorites is a band called After The Fall. Several of their
songs can be found on their web page at:

Thank you for your moderation post. I moderate the WhiteGold (ORMUS) forum
and know how moderation can be a thankless task sometimes. I recently had
occasion to post the following note to the WhiteGold list about off-topic
posts:
I have been running computer forums since 1993 when I set up a computer
bulletin board system (BBS) for forest activists in eastern Oregon and
Washington. One of the first things I learned about eastern Oregon forest
activists is that they had very divergent lifestyles, politics and
religious viewpoints but that they were all very passionate about saving
forests.
One time another activist, that I greatly respected, told a group of us
about the 90/10 Rule. The 90/10 rules basically states that we will
probably agree on 90% of what we discuss but there will be 10% that we do
not agree on. If we focus a lot of attention on the 10% we do not agree on
we will not accomplish what we wish in regard to the 90% we do agree on.
We should honor and respect the 10% differences as they are what make us
individual and unique. This portion is often the area from which new
perspectives come; but we cannot let our focus get captured by the
differences so that we spend 90% of our time discussing them and only 10%
of our time working on our common purpose.
I have used many of the things that I learned as a forest activist in
organizing ORMUS activists
Over the past few years I have participated in a couple hundred email
lists. I have mentioned ORMUS on most of these lists (and I generally
joined these lists to spread the word about ORMUS). I have even been banned
or moderated on a few of these lists for bringing up ORMUS as a topic of
conversation as the moderator felt it was off-topic. I have watched these
lists as they develop and prosper or sometimes as they decline. I have
noticed that when there are sanctions against off-topic discussions the
list is more likely to prosper.
I want ORMUS to be attractive to everyone. I do not want anyone to be
turned off by an ORMUS agenda which only supports liberals or conservatives
or Catholics or Mormons or Egyptians or hollow earthers or proponents of
global geological cataclysm.
For this reason I have set up an ORMUS and Spirit email list for discussion
of religious or spiritual issues that may relate to ORMUS. I have also set
up an ORMUS Politics list for those who wish to discuss things like
government, corporate or alien conspiracies and how they might relate to ORMUS.
ORMUS is a field of study that is quite capable of attracting opposition
without associating it with other discouraged activities. We would not want
the WhiteGold list to have to move to Mexico or Croatia because it was
organizing opposition to vaccination or some other controversial cause.
ORMUS is quite capable of generating its own controversy without borrowing
controversy from somewhere else.
I could send this forum 20 action alerts a day on the subjects that I am
passionate about but I do not do this as it would ultimately alienate
several groups of people on this list. It would alienate those people who
do not have all day to sit and read WhiteGold posts and it might also
alienate those people who have religious or political viewpoints that
differ from mine.
Let's pick our fights carefully and try to be respectful of the differing
religious, social and political viewpoints which are represented on this forum.
