Dear Friends,
I forward this for your discernment.

Dear List members,
On Friday I forwarded a report from several news agencies that
an Al Quaeda spokesperson, Mohammed al-Usuquf, in an interview
claimed that Al Quaeda planned to detonate nukes inside several
American cities.
Now further curious developments are occuring with this story.
The Asia Times newspaper has withdrawn the story. Please note that
the Asia Times, in withdrawing this Interview from their website,
stated that "it __appears__ to be a hoax." Note also that the
Asia Times used as the basis for withdrawing their story that Mary
Landesman, (a programmer who did not complete college, and who
apparently _is_ "antivirus.about.com",) said on her website that
it was a hoax. Her site sells antivirus software. Ms. Landesman
does not present any credentials in terrorism, intelligence,
journalism or law enforcement expertise. Thus we are asked to
accept her judgment that the interview is a hoax just because Ms.
Landesman said it was, without any proof or citing sources. So,
who knows what crystal ball she is using? It is curious that Asia
Times withdraws their story on such flimsy "authority".
. The original story was carried by the Asia Times,
WorldNetDaily, and the Independent Media Centre-Palestine, among
others. Asia Times has withdrawn the story. WorldNetDaily has
removed the story from their website late Friday. The Independent
Media Centre-Palestine still carries the story.
So, now I am wondering if this is: a) disinformation; b) Al
Queda terrorist psy-warfare, c) U.S. covert-ops psy-warfare, d)
Mossad psy-warfare, e) an _extremely_ well-done cyber-hoax, f) a
two-level duel between opposing intelligence agencies' spin
departments, or g) the real deal, but pulled off the Internet
because it was considered too hot, and would tend to demoralize
Americans, and sap their will to follow their selected President
into war against the perceived "Arab Menace". It also tends to
pull in Pakistan's Musharraf as a bad guy for letting Pakistani
nukes slip into Al Quaeda hands. This Interview comes right after
President Bush and President Musharraf met. News item follows:
NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (APP): Pakistan and the United States on
Saturday [Nov. 9] agreed to continue their ongoing excellent
cooperation and to pursue a coherent and coordinated diplomatic,
political, military, economic, financial and humanitarian strategy
to eliminate terrorism. This is stated in a joint statement issued
here Saturday evening on the meeting between President General
Pervez Musharraf and President George Bush of the United States.
At this point the interview is, as I initially said, "a
preliminary report", but now one which has been conditionally
withdrawn by some news agencies under circumstances which are
curious in their flimsiness, at this point.
