i can tell you that i spent just about a year completely on the study
guide, without reading anything from the main text. this gave me a
chance to digest the concepts ra would be talking about ahead of time
of the actual dialogue, as sometimes the dialogue can be confusing.

dw: no doubt this is true. in my early 1996 days with the material, i got
into the habit of always checking whether ra agreed with elkins first before
i read the questions. otherwise, you'd invariably start agreeing with elkins
and think he was right, only to once again have him get the "smackdown" from
ra - and if you knew in advance that a question was going to be wrong, you
could pay better attention to why that might be teh case.
