well, here's why: it is quite inefficient to have 300
different copies of a gif sent to all list members for
the same reason it is inefficient to not strip off the
dead text at the end of emails. it hogs bandwidth and
clogs inboxes. plus, we recently had a problem with
virus scripts being sent to list participants via
attachments to posts. since then, all attachments are
stripped out of email for bandwidth efficiency and
security reasons.
you can share pictures on the asc2k yahoogroups page.
go to
http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/asc2k/lst where
you can add photos to our growing album of interesting
pictures. then you can email everybody to let them
know what's there and everybody's happy :-)

we maintain a site with 850 members who are financial analyst, or
students of such and post graphics all the time.
it does not clog up anyones inbox's but we don't have all the idle
chatter that this site has.
i was only trying to demonstrate an event which supported david's
supposition.
my time is precious and creating graphics and then posting to another
site and then notifying this site is good for those who have nothing
better to do but my time is limited.
carry on!

you're lucky that your site has not experienced a
virus attack, then. we have and we learned our
lesson.

i guarantee you that sending an image file with an
email will tend to take at least 5 times the space as
without it. that may not seem like a lot but if
anybody has had delays in getting posts from this list
(and i know there have been several, including me)
they can attest to the finite amount of bandwidth
yahoo! provides us.

that is appreciated, and my point was not to undermine
such support, but to provide an explanation for what
you experienced. i was not by any means scolding you
for sending an attachment, nor did i think it was
possible for it to be interpreted that way.
regardless, i apologize if you thought that was the
case.

i am sure that the time of people who wait for their
email to download is precious to them as well.
in any case, if you uploaded that image file to the
files section, it would have taken you just as long as
to write that email, and an automatic notification
would have been sent to the list. 2 minutes of your
limited time at the very most.
and i thought i was being helpful, but maybe i just
have nothing better to do.
have a great day! :-)
