space is basically curved making gravity, pushing inwards where there
is more mass, like blackholes, and the earth isn't massive enough to
make light not escape.
well, what i am trying to point out is blackholes are basically a
dipped conic shape in gravity if you look at a 3d plane where the 3rd
dimensional plane is wrapped into a 2d plane, and the up and down
would be gravity in a sense.
basically, look below.

i hope you get the idea for that. blackholes would be deep, and the
earth would be less warped, due to less gravity.
well, what i am saying, (and by the way, i hope posting this didn't
warp that text image), is maybe the spiral of light spirals in such a
way it cannot turn in the right direction on the lines of space to
escape that. kind of like a train going on train tracks, but the
ahead turn is so sharp, it doesn't go forward, but bounces off in the
direction it can go and goes back or wherever else it can.
if the graphic is warped or messed up to yahoo!'s advertisement
placing, if you watch that simpson's episode where homer gets sucked
into the 3rd dimension (yes, i know, it was a twilight zone rip-off
in a sense), and when the cone makes a rip, that is in a sense what i
was trying to show above.
