View Full Version : Neuro-theology, says there is no God

hi all,
i finally had the chance to scan the attached article.
i was on a business trip in taiwan back in february,
and the hotel gave its guests a complimentary copy of
newsweek, the international edition.
i was very surprised to read about, the so called,
scientific research being done by neurologists. they
are calling their work,neuro-theology. they used a
brain imaging machine on a tibetan buddhist monk as he
approached the transcendent peak of his meditative
state. the scan reveals that the bottom right side of
his brain slows down and becomes inactive. "deprived of
sensory input by the man's inward concentration,
this 'orientation area' can not do its job in finding
the border between self and world."
so, in there infinite wisdom they conclude
that, "spiritual experiences are the inevitable outcome
of brain wiring". there is no such thing as god, our
brain's are just wired that way.
when i finished reading the article, i thought, what a
sad out look on life these scientist's have.
i for one, can't wait for convergence iii to be posted,
to add some real research to the mix.
anyone else have any comments?

jeff,
the author of the book, the god part of the brain, used his perspective to
prove that every spiritual experience is a wired effect. he did not prove a
single thing other than one more wonder of life.
i thought, the difference between his perspective of the data and mine was
not one of correct interpretation but of belief.
he did not believe in experiences of god and spiritual context so what made
him feel good was that it was all natural wiring.
myself i believe in god and spiritual context and frankly i'm thankful to be
in this room called life and be able to use a telephone (brain wiring) to
search beyond it.
isn't the fact that we are all wired for god and spiritual experience a
wonderful proof of their probable existence?
