dw: rod, i hope that in all the physics work you didn't miss the movie "the
matrix." though it is excessively violent there is a grain of inspiration
that can be gleaned from it regarding the changes now underway in the mass
consciousness of humanity. the red pill is one of two choices, and signifies
the free-will decision of the individual to move forward into an
understanding of what "the matrix" really is.

peace be with you -

when evening came, turkey roosting became a concern. in the wild, turkeys roamed in small groups, probably no more than could roost in a single tree. however, in an environment of many birds and few trees the ranch house was the next best roost. imagine thousands of turkeys roosting on the ranch house roof at the end of a 110 degree summer day. not a very desirable situation to say the least.

all through the starry night there was a continual “gobble, gobble, gobble.” i wondered, do these birds talked in their sleep? however, as i watched, i noticed that in each sector of the flock there were a few turkey heads sticking up watching and listening. insomniac turkeys? well, i do declare. then i saw that after a while each apparent insomniac would do a little “gobble, gobble, gobble,” and tuck its head down under a wing. were they giving up their evening anxiety attack? low and behold, somewhere within that group of surrendering turkeys another would bring its head up with a “gobble, gobble, gobble.”

now you have the picture. these dumb (?) turkeys were sharing a danger watch all through the night. they were trading off their instinctive vigil with gobble, gobble, gobble, precision. all of this without realizing the special interests of those they looked to for security. as just a boy i was seeing, in an un-naturally congested flock of turkeys, the secrete of their primal group survival.

however, for all of their watching the turkeys will be future food, for the thanksgiving feast. the glitch in their survival system is one of limited awareness. they have a natural cat, coyote, badger, and general predator awareness as a refinement of their selective survival. but, this awareness ends in contentment with those who provide food and protection while selfishly watching over them.

now, you have this grand metaphor of a modern society demonstrated in kids and turkeys all bedded down in the fields of national complacency. the turkey masses are in a state of a second rate false security, under the watchful eye of a kid bureaucracy. grasp in a personal sense the ultimate fate of the thanksgiving variety of turkeys. the kid bureaucracy caring for them and perhaps even admiring their unique yet limited watchfulness, really served those who were thinking about the monetary advantage of turkey masses with absolutely no regard for personal turkeys.

this instinctive security system of wild turkeys is actually a wonderful metaphor for a healthy democratic republic where there is continual watching. hence, turkeys provides a vivid example of the danger in complacent democracy. when people place their essential needs into the keeping of others, their instinctive system of survival falls into the realm of false security and insomniac anxiety. they perch before their news media looking for dangers that are out there somewhere while the true danger to their sovereignty lies in those who feed them the news. they keep their oustridge head in the sand not facing the bold reality that the freedom heroes of history are dead, that the nature of the politic is self serving to its core. they do not want to look history in the eye to see that their natural freedoms have been slowly traded for fake and unnatural securities. they do not want to be intrinsically aware of things that they cannot afford to react to. very few of them can reflect with the wisdom of benjamin franklin who said "those who trade their liberty for security deserves neither liberty, nor security.".

what is a practical motif for watchful, appropriate reactions. ah yes, awareness, that is the answer. is the solution in violent revolution? no, the solution is in proactive awarness. if every citizen took their turn at watching and conveyed what they see in their personal watching moments to their fellow citizens then their combined awarness will shape their true personal sovereignty and hence their collective freedoms. if every citizen took their oustridge head out of the sand and watched like turkeys, expanding their collective awareness by sharing and listening with appropriate gobbling their freedoms would be preserved.

think on this. the most comprehensive definition of evil is; the asserted circumvention of the natural and righteous choice of others. natural and righteous then can be defined as actions thatproduce no evil.

what more can i say to you my family, friends and fellow citizens. what more of a dynamic metaphor can i offer. is the insight of a boy any less valid than his realizations as a wild old senior turkey standing here among you all, watching, sensing our complacency with false security. are you standing with me? will you share some of the watching? “gobble, gobble, gobble.”

great essay rod, thanks for sharing!

do we have the liberty to simply live, like
the birds or the fish?
what room is there for our homeless?

your turkey talk reminds me of the food chain.
our food chain is actually a money chain.
pertinent to this, the golden rule:
"the one with the most money, makes the rules."

many of us are slaves to money.

repressively bound and tied
sado-masochistically,
pat
