i don't mind you reminding people to be neater about
editing their text. but if you're gonna scold
somebody personally it would be better to do it
off-list, imho.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
people(and jason),
i agree with you totally, actually. it was a private post, but i failed to
check the "to" field, hence sent it to the list, rather than to jason, as
intended. i was dismayed that it went to the list. my apologies to jason.
on the subject of posts, here are a few comments from others:
...on "me too" replies...
[begin quote]
i don't mean to pick on you personally, but this is a perfect example of
something that has been annoying me recently. this list receives dozens of
messages each day, quite a few of which say little more than "thanks" or "me
too," and are otherwise devoid of semantic value. there's nothing inherently
wrong with this, but every time i get one, i have to open it up, read enough
of it to verify that there's nothing of interest to me, and then delete it.
this can be a real pain, especially when using a web-based client like
hotmail over a dial-up connection, and it's the primary reason why i've quit
almost every mailing list i've ever been on.
before you send something to the list, stop and think for a moment about
whether it's going to be of any interest to more than one of the hundreds of
people on the list. if not, take "live-food@yahoogroups.com (/group/asc2k/post?postid=xfhncpy19nkzmkw5alc8lyakicvvtqnzum54xe tokherv3b3ja092kzmpgqwwcnfhesrac1jxcm2ju4hfc0bxlr6 mg)" out of the
"to:" field and replace it with the e-mail address of the one person to whom
you want to send it.
that said, i'll just sit back and wait for the barrage of "me too" replies.
[end quote]
...on "correcting others posts"...
[begin quote]
me, too. you know what else bugs me? posts
that correct other posters posting habits
and contents. i wish i didn't have to take
the time to correct everyone on this, but
in my self-appointed role as list sh*tstirrer,
i felt honor-bound to do so.
[end quote]
...on "too long posts"...
[begin quote]
...you guys! i have a free e-mail address and my
inbox is rather limited so when i get a big bunch
of e-mails that are mostly old posts with only the
new pots on top, then it takes up sooo much space in
my inbox and i have to delete the whole thign, even if
it has some good information in it. come on! send in
new stuff only please!
[end quote]
i have belonged to many lists over the years and all of them have these--and
many more--problems. i stay on this list only for up-to-date information
related to david's site, but i do like to read perspicacious comments from
astute members of this list, but when such keeper comments include a long(or
short) old-text, dead post, then i must paste the good stuff and send it to
myself, which takes time, so i just delete the whole thing and lose a bit of
useful p.o.v.(point of view).
i don't like being a pain in the arse for anybody and this is the last time
i will post at all on the subject of posting anything to the list. yapping
about post-sheeit does not raise anybody's vibrations at all, especially
mine.
to those of you who consistently send in clean posts--thank you.
