glen rein proposes a theory of "crystalline transduction" to explain the mechanism of action of scalar waves within biological systems. he proposed "that scalar energy is transduced into linear electromagnetic energy in the body by liquid crystals in the cell membrane and solid crystals found in the blood and biological tissues." these fields of information may be transmitting information by our very interaction with them. understanding subtle energy fields and subjective states of consciousness is shedding some light on methods by which information is obtained outside rational or direct sensory processes. science is beginning to understand better the subjective experience of the intuitive.

information content associated with both classical and non-classical (subtle, non-hertzian, scalar) electromagnetic energy can be stored in physical objects.
these objects include water (rein, 1992, schwartz, 1991), geometric patterns (rein, 1997), electronic circuits (dibble & tiller, 1999) and even paper (omura, 1990). for water and electronic circuits, preliminary evidence suggests that the stored information can be subsequently retrieved or utilized by biological systems, thereby producing a biological effect. in this sense these objects have a memory of the information stored within them. although long-term storage of information in physical objects is considered an anomaly in the eyes of traditional science, it has been demonstrated experimentally.
the author’s own research in this area has demonstrated that subtle energy generated from “free energy” devices and those associated with human intention can be stored in water for several months if the optical properties of water are measured using a special form of ultraviolet (uv) spectroscopy (rein, 1992). furthermore, the stored energy is biologically active when the water is exposed to a variety of biological systems (gagnon and rein, 1990). one of the biological targets used in these studies was the dna molecule. in addition to these responses to stored or imprinted energy, dna has been shown to act as an antenna for other forms of subtle energy (rein, 1994a, 1996, 1997). thus, it has been discovered that in addition to classical em fields (semin, 1995), subtle energy resonates with the dna molecule and causes physical changes in its secondary structure (winding and unwinding of the helix).

although numerous studies indicate the biological significance of linear, transverse em and acoustic waves, relatively little is known about the role of nonlinear, non-hertzian waves in biological systems. such a role for non-hertzian waves is likely since recent quantum mechanical analysis of biological processes has revealed the inherent non-linearity. thus contrary to traditional thermodynamic theories, biochemical reactions can occur far from equilibrium and are not always dispersive and degenerative. based on nonlinear mathematical analyses of schrodinger's em equations, quantum mechanical models have been developed which describe subatomic quasi-particles like excitons and plasmons, and solitons.

recently it has been proposed that these quantum particles store and carry biological information along helical macromolecules like dna. it has also been suggested that they are generated and propagated along helical proteins in the cell membrane in response to weak em radiation in the visible and extremely low frequency spectrum. since these quasi-particles can propagate in silicon dioxide crystal lattices, a bi-directional transduction of non-hertzian waves to transverse em waves by liquid crystals in the cell membrane is likely. it is also likely that non-hertzian waves propagate throughout the body via the crystalline lattices of the elaborate collagen network comprising the extracellular space. these results suggest a new nonlinear regulatory network in the body with properties best described by quantum physics.

dr. rein received his phd in biochemistry from the university of london. for the last 25 years, he has pursued an academic career in orthodox biomedical research at harvard and standford medical schools, where he studied neuroscience, immunology, psychoneuroimmunology, and bioelectromagnetics. in 1988 he left academia to pursue his interest in energy medicine and founded the quantum biology research laboratory. his research has since focused on characterizing new forms of non-classical electromagnetic energy and their effects on biological systems.

dr. rein is the author of the book, quantum biology: healing with subtle energy, and has published over 30 articles in biomedical journals and books. he has lectured internationally and has made numerous media appearances on radio and tv. dr. rein is a faculty advisor at holos university. he is on numerous scientific and editorial boards, and is a reviewer for several journals, including the journal of alternative and complementary medicine.

but cell phones are whack ;) when i'm in my "perceptive mode" and need to make a phone call on my cell, i can feel this tingling-itching pressure on that side of my head where i'm listening.
definitely some antiquated technology, when it comes down to it. hmmm...imagine a "phone" that could transmit information non-locally using biological sensors that could "talk to one another" when focused along a resonant frequency (basically, the phone number), regardless of distance.
you could use a matrix of lasers to encode the desired information within the dna. you'd just have to find a highly mutable cell...stem cells anyone?

some rambling thoughts i am having sparked by magical mongoose's reply...

about using biological interventions for communication, i was instantly reminded of a way that tribal peoples have communicated for millenia.
the person wishing to send a long-distance message throws his arms around a tree, and mentally communicates to the tree the message he wishes to send to a given person. his fellow tribesman instantly receives this message telepathically. i'm speculating that the tree (or rather the deva, over-arching spirit, or spirit-essence of the tree; whatever you want to call it) is a subtle energy field that acts as a biological amplifier for the thoughts of the sender. how would it do this?
in one of the recent posts in this thread dr. rein shows evidence that physical objects can hold energy. i think that the tree absorbs the thought of the sender by some sort of subtle energy connection, and is not only able to hold the energy, but also amplify and transmit it to the desired person, which is caused by the tree's "empathy" (resonance) with the energy of the sender.
this got me to thinking, as i write this, that this is how higher beings (masters, sages) draw us up onto their level. i'll explain.
there is a powerful little book written by [please email for name and book]. it describes the "yugas" (ages or cycles) of creation. we are currently in ascending dwapara yuga, the age of the use of electricity. electromagnetism, the beginning of exploring the atomic and quantum world, etc. after hundreds of thousands of years we advance into the next two ages, followed by the last and highest satya yuga (the "golden age") where there is no need for any device, (either biological or mechanical) to transmit thought, as the entire population is entirely intuitive.
but a highly-evolved soul, although living physically during our current yuga of dwapara, is already living from a "golden age" in his own consciousness. this is a similar thought that david expresses as our higher self traveling back in time to awaken itself (as the "holy science" was written around the turn of the century, i doubt that time-travel terminology would have gone over very big way back then!) these evolved souls have the ability to activate the light-bodies (in graduated degrees), of those not as far along on the spiritual path by transmitting their own higher energy to the person (in a stepped down fashion that they can tolerate). they are amplifying the persons natural energy, in a similar way that the tree does when it acts as a carrier for a person's intentional thought wave.
it seems that everything in creation follows this model.
a person's light-body is repeatedly activated more and more by the spoken or written word, glance or touch of the already-awakened soul, and eventually that soul will awaken the light-body in others.
we are all both "senders" and "receivers" and this beautiful sending and receiving dance is what keeps creation evolving into higher and higher realms.
my kriya-yoga teacher had said that in 60 - 70 years, a person will be able to walk into a library, inhale deeply, and walk out with all the knowledge in that library downloaded into him! this just sounded to fantastical to be true until i started to study david's writings on earth's ascension to the fourth dimension around 2012. must be a pretty powerful shift in order to allow this sort of thing to happen in only 70 years of evolution!
we hear alot about the hundred-fold increase in harmony between people after the shift, but this is the first time i've heard about changes in the telepathic level of the mass-consciousness at this time. who knows what other powers may be awakened in us after 2012!!

his description of "zpe" (zero-point energy) reminded me of the stargate sg1 "zpm" (zero-point module) which (on the show) emits enormous amounts of energy; sounds like it is harnessing the gpe on a quantum level (if a zpm were to really exist) as dr. rein shows here that gpe has a quantum aspect; he says that "it's higher dimemsional counterpart can be considered as a quantum field".

the energetic nature of prana
abstract: eastern traditions, including vedanta and kashmir shaivism, have sophisticated models of manifestation (involution) where matter (including the body) is created from supreme consciousness or the self. the process involves transformations of supreme consciousness into "tattvas" or principles of (among other things) increasing density of energy. these traditions also describe the evolutionary process (and methods of its achievement), whereby involuted consciousness transforms back to supreme consciousness (self-realization).

in these models, prana, shakti and chiti are terms used to describe the aspects of consciousness which exists in all tattvas. prana is considered the bridge between the mind and the body. prana also exists in the body where it functions to regulate and control all physiological processes depending on which of its five sub-types are involved. since prana originates from the self, it is a higher aspect of consciousness and therefore controls the mind. conversely, the mind can also control the flow of prana. the mind plays an essential role in this process being positioned between the self and the body. self-realization processes involving prana can effect the activation and movement of kundalini.
parallels between the profound understandings of the east and contemporary western physics can readily be drawn. prana, shakti, chiti and kundalini can thereby be considered different forms of energy.

electromagnetic and acoustic energy can be considered dense forms of energy, since the physical sciences have now described other forms of energy which are more subtle in nature and have non-classical properties. physicists describe how one form of energy can be transformed into another form of energy. experimental evidence now exists that these subtle energies do in fact have a functional role in biological systems. according to david bohm's model, the (subtle, energetic) implicate order is embedded within the (dense, physical) explicate order and the implicate order is composed of layers of increasing subtlety. thus subtle energy can be embedded within electromagnetic energy. experimental evidence also exists that electrical energy in the body, measured as dc potentials on acupuncture points, is under mental control. new nonlinear analytical methods have shown that electrical energy of the body contains subtle information within. taken together, it becomes clear that western sciences have finally evolved to the point where they can explain the wisdom from the eastern traditions.
