when things are going badly it seems as though it will always be this way. we become depressed, hopeless. we take blame.

when things are going well it seems they will always be good. we make oaths, promises to ourselves and to others, pledging ourselves to this or that. we take credit.

there is a spiritual way which is immune to those changes, a maturity that begins to go with the flow. but it can be highly variable, very selective. we may be spiritually aware in one area of our lives and totally deaf, blind, and stupid in another.

i need the grounding of familiar faces, prayers, circumstances, keys to my growth, reminders of what i did to become what i am.

the miracle of consciousness is that our brains allow us to manipulate ourselves. we can guide ourselves to the teachings that heal. whatever we are telling ourselves is the reality that we create and live.

reality is what we say it is. or perhaps it is easier to understand by saying it another slightly different way: the way we respond to the world is up to us.

everything is happening in my nervous system. everything i see, physically, goes through my optic nerve. quantum physics suggests that we might have control over even that.

my consciousness is the whole show.

so when i surrender even that, when i let go and trust whatever is feeding me these images, my world improves. my self talk becomes gratitude to the divine, acceptance of what is, the most powerful force for change in the whole universe.

the paradox is that with acceptance comes the deepest and truest action.

whatever is happening is part of a continuum that the wise ones have learned to trust.
