I read this thread this morning and began to listen to Axis Bold As Love in my head on my drive to work....got as far as "Ain't No Tellin'".....

Jimi is my hero, and has been since I first heard his music back in the late 60's, Back in the day, being a Native girl was not really a happy place to be, and when I found out his mother was Native, and then listened to his sound, and then listened to his lyrics, oh wow, I have no words to describe how it helped.

Many Native tribes have myths that state we're from the stars and reincarnation is merely an afterfact. Certainly in my own Cree Nation, our stories that we're from the stars are prolific. I now live and work with the Mi'kmaq in Nova Scotia, and their stories of coming from the stars are similiar.

Just had to say that ^^^^ to preface my belief that Jimi may have heard similiar stories from his Mom. Certainly, Up From the Skies would seem to indicate that he did....

I just want to talk to you, I won't do you no harm
I just want to know about your diff'rent lives
On this is here people farm
I heard some of you got your families
Living in cages tall and cold
And some just stay there and dust away
Past the age of old.
Is this true ?
Please let me talk to you.

I just wanna know about
The rooms behind your minds
Uh do I see a vacuum there
Or am I going blind ?
Or is it just remains of vibrations
And echoes long ago ?
Things like "Love the world" and "Let your fancy flow"
Is this true ?
Please let me talk to you
Let me talk to you.

I have lived here before, the days of ice
And of course this is why I'm so concerned
And I come back to find the stars misplaced
And the smell of a world that is burned
A smell of a world that is burned.

Yeah well, maybe, hmm...
Maybe it's just a... change of climate
Hmm, hmm...
Well I can dig it
I can dig it baby
I just want to see.

So where do I purchase my ticket ?
I'd just like to have a ringside seat
I want to know about the new Mother Earth
I want to hear and see everything
I want to hear and see everything
I want to hear and see everything
Yeah...

Aww, shucks
If my daddy could see me now
Everything, everything, everything, oh everything.

Funny how I can relate the most important moments in my life to songs from my man...

Favourite albums are A Band of Gypsys and War Heroes, with an honourable mention to Ladyland.

I remember back in '75, I bought a poster of Jimi for fifty bucks, which was a fortune back then. I bought it not only because he was playing his white backwards strat, but he was wearing just the most beautiful turquoise Native jewelry. WelI I dragged this thing around the world for years, until back in '99, when I had entirely more money than time, I took this poster to a fancy dancy studio in Yellowknife to get framed. When I got around to picking it up two weeks later, there was a sign on it that it wasn't for sale, so please don't ask. I laughed and asked why and the salesperson said that they hung it and a bajillion people wanted to buy it. Just goes to show that Jimi is as timeless as he was back in the day....it still hangs in my living room as my most favourite picture, surrounded by Native acrylics and prints of ravens, lol lol

Message of Love, going to listen to this now...thanks for indulging in this ol' gals memories and appreciation for my hero. Cheers, Raven

Raven,
What a great observation about a beautiful human being.:) I too have always loved jimi and thought that he was very special. Not only because he was so talented but because his attitude and outlook were so positive. i am only 29 so i never had the privilidge of seeing jimi live but his sound is just so electrifying that i can only imagine that being at one of his shows would be an unforgettable experience. My favorite album is A Band of Gypsies and my favorite song is Message of Love. The lyrics are so insightful. Check it out for your self.

WELL I TRAVEL AT THE SPEED OF A REBORN MAN
I GOT A LOT OF LOVE TO GIVE
FROM THE MIRRORS OF MY HAND
I SENT A MESSAGE OF LOVE
DON'T TOU RUN AWAY LOOK AT YOUR HEART BABY
COME ON ALONG WITH ME TODAY
WELL I AM WHAT I AM THANK GOD
SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND
WELL HELP THEM GOD
FIND YOURSELF FIRST
AND THEN YOUR TOOL
FIND YOURSELF FIRST
DON'T YOU BE NO FOOL
HERE COMES A WOMAN WRAPPED UP IN CHAIN
MESSIN' WITH THAT FOOL BABY
YOUR LIFE IS PAIN
IF YOU WANNA BE FREE
COME ON ALONG WITH ME
DON'T MESS WITH THE MAN
HE'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND
I SAID FIND YOURSELF FIRST
AND THEN YOUR TALENT
WORK HARD IN YOUR MIND
SO YOU CAN COME ALIVE
YOU BETTER PROVE TO THE MAN
YOU'RE AS STRONG AS HIM
'CAUSE IN THE EYES OF GOD
YOU'RE BOTH CHILDREN TO HIM
EVERYBODY COME ALIVE
EVERYBODY LIVE ALIVE
EVERYBODY HEAR MY MESSAGE

I feel the ocean swaying me …
washing away all my pains.
See where I was wounded,
Remember the scar ?
Now you can’t see a thing …
And I don’t feel no pain…
Singing about the Valley of Sunsets
Green and blue … Canyons too
Singing about Atlantis love songs.
The Valleys of Neptune is arising.
Mercury liquid … Emerald’s shining
Telling me where I came from …
Honey Sun … Pourquise Bed he
lays in … on the Burning
edge Horizon.
I’m sailing on the Bluebird’s mission …
Bubble and curls and tiptoes in the foam …
See the wind make love to all
the ocean … Joy spread and
the massage got home …
Singing about the Valley of Sunsets …
Purple and gold … the Armies of the Lord
Before ancient Egypt, there were moon trips …
The Valleys of Neptune is arising …
Look out East coast, but you’re
gonna have a neighbor,
A rebirth land …
the praying Burning Sands.
We know there were worlds
so much older …
And they shall rise, and
tell us much more the truth of man …
I see visions of sleeping peaks
erupting …
releasing all hell that
will shake the Earth from end to end …
And this ain’t bad news, good news,
or any news … it’s just the truth,
Better save your souls while
you can …
Singing about the New Valleys
of the Sunrise … Rainbow clean,
the world is gonna be …
Singing about getting ready for the new tide …
The Valleys of Neptune is arising

Hi All, Jimi was certainly an amazing person and musician.

Question, do you guys like Steve Vai? For me, Vai is the high priest of 6 strings over the last 30 years or so (besides Van Halen in the 80's). I've seen him every single time he's been to Australia including 1988 with the Dave Roth band.

I enjoy his music but also love what he stands for. He is a very enlightened soul and his music reflects this.

Music is the spice of life huh!
Enjoy.

Rich

PS off to see ACDC on saturday night in Brisbane, not my fave band, but hey they're getting on and probably wont get back here before they retire..

Agreed, but Eddie is a master. What can I say, the man inspires me.

But I loved Steve Vai on David Lee Roth's album, can't remember the name, but he's rockclimbing on the cover.

Band of Gypsys is just the best on so many levels and thanks for sharing. I love that song as it epitomises the way he thought!

Cheers all, Raven

Jimi was really something. I believe he was drafted during Viet Nam and got out by telling the man he was gay. To think we might never have heard his music. The sixties, what a wild ride it was but it will be passae to what is coming! Keep your seat belts fastened because the brakes have been turned off,,,
