Most of us come from different religious backgrounds than what we "practice" today. In other words, I would describe my spirituality as mixed; Christian base, mixed with Eastern philosophy, New Age, etc.

This is one of my favorite hymns from back in the day. Maybe some of you remember singing this in church?

Let There Be Peace On Earth

Words and Music: Sy Miller and Jill Jackson

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now,
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!

Rather fitting... :D

I learnt this in Sunday School and it seems to apply to me and what it means to be here on earth - also encourages me to 'live and let live'...that being the 'shining example' is all we really can be - I've spent a long time trying to 'rescue' people and now I know that all I need to do is be the 'little candle' shining in the darkness for those who want to come into the light...

Jesus Bids Us Shine

Jesus bids us shine
With a pure, clear light,
Like a little candle
Burning in the night.
In this world of darkness
So let we must shine
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.

Amazing how simple songs, religious or otherwise, can encapsulate ideas so well, isn't it?
